Chairman Andy Matthews (CT)

 

Andrew took office as the President of the Connecticut State Police Union in July of 2010. Prior to being elected President, Andrew was a member of the Executive Board from 2006 to 2010.  Andrew became a member of the Connecticut State Police in 1998 (107th Training Troop) and was selected to the State Police Major Crime Unit in 2000.  In 2004, Andrew was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.


Andrew graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in 1993 from Western Connecticut State University, where he majored in Justice and Law Administration.  He went on to attend the University of New Haven, receiving his Masters degree in Forensic Science in 2006. Andrew then attended the Massachusetts School of Law, where he was elected President of the Student Bar Association and was the recipient of the 2008 Deans Award.  In May of 2008, he received his Juris Doctor degree and successfully passed the Connecticut Bar exam in July of 2008.  In October of 2008, Andrew was sworn in and became a member of the Connecticut Bar Association. 


Andrew’s private practice focuses on representing employees in labor and employment matters.  Andrew represents the Yale Police Benevolent Association (which has approximately 65 Union members consisting of patrol officers and detectives) in employment and labor matters, contract negotiations and other related litigation.  From 2005 to 2012, Andrew was an adjunct Professor at the Manchester Community College, where he lectured on Ethics, Crime Scene Processing and Policing in the Community.  In October 2014, Andrew was the recipient of the Gilbert High School Distinguished Professional Achievement Award for the participation, commitment and leadership he has shown in his profession. 

 

In 2011, Andrew was elected to the Executive Board of the National Troopers Coalition (NTC), which represents 42,000 State Troopers from 41 states around the country.  In February of 2015, Andrew was elected as NTC Chairman.

 

Most importantly, Andrew is honored to be the husband of Attorney Crystal Chow-Matthews and the father of three-year-old Grayce Sau-Ying and one-year-old Aiden Jin-Wah.
